About

Welcome to NYC House Music History: A Bibliography, my name is Myron Brown, I am a librarian, a history student, and a house and techno music head. This blog is an attempt to list what has been documented about house music in New York City thus far. Generally speaking I am looking at the period from 1984, when the first house music records from Chicago started being played on New York City dance floors, to 2002, the closing of Club Vinyl long time home of the Be Yourself, Shelter, and Body & Soul parties. Right now the focus is on listing what has been published about house music in New York City in this period. This may or may lead to a larger project later on but for right now I am just summarizing what has been documented. Hopefully this would allow for others to learn more about the history of house music in the New York City area.
